AMERICAN STUDIES

 

SUMMARY

This course explores all aspects of American history from its earliest inception to the modern day focusing on the major social, political, and economic themes, with a strong emphasis being placed on the role minorities have played in shaping the American culture.  The American political system --local, state and federal and the role of the student as a citizen is also addressed during the course of study.  The role of the United States in world affairs is stressed so that the student comes to understand the importance of other cultures on the United States and comes to appreciate the interdependence of other societies in the formation of the unique American character.  The course places great emphasis on analysis on primary evidence investigation and improving critical thinking skills.
