WORLD HISTORY I

PRE-HISTORY TO THE 17TH CENTURY

SUMMARY

This course examines selected themes of world history from prehistory to the 17th century. By drawing examples from various regions and chronological periods, emphasis is placed on those patterns and recurrent ideas, which have shaped the contemporary world community. Themes such as various faiths, patterns of human organization, revolution, technological change, intellectual trends, and geographical traits are studied and analyzed from a non-centric world historical perspective.  Rather than focus on individual societies in isolation, the course focuses on comparing and contrasting existing societies with one another and stress the importance of the interdependence of one another as citizens of the world.  The course places great emphasis on analysis on primary evidence investigation and improving critical thinking skills.
