Visual Arts Magnet Program Description

The Visual Arts Magnet Program offers highly motivated students the opportunity to develop visual perceptual and technical skills as well as creative problem solving skills in Fine Arts and Design.  Fine Arts areas include drawing, digital imagery, painting, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics.  Design areas include illustration, graphic design, and architectural design.

Each student artist will develop a portfolio of artworks or design projects based on the student’s interest in a particular idea or theme that will demonstrate a depth of investigation and a process of discovery.  A proposal stating the description and objectives of the magnet project theme will be completed and approved during the first weeks of the semester.  Each student will then acquire and demonstrate the appropriate skills that will successfully express the idea or theme of the proposed project.

At the end of every semester, each student will select, prepare for display, and exhibit the most successful artwork produced during that semester.  Each student will also have the opportunity to submit works and portfolios in juried competitions and exhibitions such as the Scholastic Arts Awards

Each student will keep a sketchbook/work journal that records visual ideas, reflects upon their artistic activities, and charts their weekly progress.
