Mr. March has had artwork selected for five prestigious juried art exhibitions this spring and summer on the international, national and regional levels.
Two works from his mixed media Tribes series, Tribes II and Tribes III, were selected by Nat Trotman, Assistant Curator of the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York City, for the 80th Annual International Juried Exhibition at the Art Association of Harrisburg. Harrisburg, PA, May 9 to June 12, 2008. The Tribes series of works are a visual exploration of groups of people with different interests, beliefs, and agendas existing in conflict. Tribes II, which was prompted by the news reports of sexual abuse of altar boys by certain priests, received a Second Prize, sponsored by NRG Energy Harrisburg, in the mixed media category of the exhibition.
Two other mixed media works from his Tribes series, Tribes VIII and Tribes IX, were selected by Dinah Ryan, art critic, curator, and Director of the Stanier Gallery at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia, for the Images 2008 regional exhibition at the Robeson Gallery in the HUB/Robeson Center on the University Park Campus of Pennsylvania State University, June 11 to July 13, 2008. The works consist of two humanly-scaled rectangular panels and involve surfaces of natural and/or manufactured materials. Tribes VIII combines one panel with the rough surface of vertical natural tree bark set against another panel with horizontal manufactured vinyl siding. In the similar diptych, Tribes IX, a panel with tree bark of a different species, coexists next to a panel with manufactured horizontal veneer brick and mortar. Tribes VIII received an Award of Merit.

The two dimensional artwork submitted for the national juried exhibition was limited in size to not exceed 144 square inches. March’s painting relates to a March 8th, 2008 surveillance image of the suspected Times Square bomber in New York City.

The juror was Sarah Newman, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Cocoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Tribes XIV received a Second Place Award.
