Live Theatre Review
7th Grade Performing Arts
The purpose of this assignment
is to allow students to attend a live theatre performance, and
give their opinions and thoughts about that production through a
theatre critique.
Strategy:
Take notes at intermission and after the
show. Use your first response to what you have seen.
Please respond to the following aspects of the production in
your review:
1. Sets--- the actual pieces and ‘places’
where the actors were.
2. Props---things that the actors held and
manipulated by hand.
3. Sound---including any effects, mics and any music
before or during the production.
4. Lights---both on and off stage.
5. Costumes--- both worn and present on the
set in scenes.
6. Direction---those choices to move about
the set where and when the director chose.
7. Acting---the way the actors created the
characters they played.
Use a double spaced format.
Use complete sentences.
Write in paragraph form about each of the
points listed above.
Remember that you are reviewing the
production, not the play/script. Address all 7
aspects as listed above. Please use examples from the
production to support your writing. Your opinion, thoughts, and
feelings should be clear and included in this review. Do not
simply list what you saw, critique and review what you saw.
